We'll embark on a journey from the fundamental structure of trees to a unique and expressive drawing technique.

We'll begin by delving into the anatomy of a tree, exploring its essential elements – from the sturdy trunk and branching patterns to the delicate structure of twigs and leaves. Understanding this foundation will empower you to create drawings that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also structurally sound and full of life.

Once we have a solid grasp of tree anatomy, we'll transition to an exciting surface: gesso. Just as the old silver point method, you’ll discover the delightful texture this prepared ground offers and how its tooth beautifully receives graphite. We'll then layer on the magic of vibrant colour, experimenting with various mediums to add exquisite touches of complexity to your tree drawings.

Also explore luminous washes of watercolour, accents of pastel, coloured pencil and other media that satisfies curiosity. We'll investigate which medium resonates most with your artistic vision and how each interacts uniquely with the graphite on gesso. We'll even feature a truly special combination: layering transparent watercolourglazes over your graphite drawing to create depth and ethereal beauty.
